My little garden Vol 5 2.2

We picked 6 kg vegetables today afternoon. Shanghai Cabbage, Lettuce, Parsley, covering the emerged carrots with soil. making the surface soil soft, cutting the old carrot leaves.

The vegetables will be divided into several portions for meals.

KFBG - Dai Hua Bai

Da Hua Bai , the only pig species kept, at KFBG, is a native of mainland China. The species acquires good maternity and is more adapted to local climate, thus were chosen to cross-breed with exotic pigs. Nowadays, they are not welcomed by the farmers in mainland Chain because of their relatively fatty meat, as compared to other meat type.

Some information about pigs:

Each year a sow can give birth to 2 litters of piglets. On average each litter has 8 piglets. the gestation period is usually 114 days.

Most of the pig breeds become sexually mature at 5-6 months of age, the one at KFBG starts reproduction at age of 8 months. Some breeds are most reproductive at 3 years of age, but it depends on the breeds. Pigs are usually discarded by farmer at around 5-6 years old when they become less productive.

Usually pigs can live up to 26-27 years old. But for the species of Da Hua Bai, their average life span is around 12-15 years.

Walk a mile for onsen in Yoichi (余市,北海道) (4/2/2006)

余市的温泉

It is the first try on onsen in town.

When we arrived Yoichi JR train Station, in the tourist information counter, we asked where the nearest onsen was.

We took 30 minutes walk to the onsen, feeling that it was a long way as the snow was quite big.

At last we , with warm bodies, returned to Sapporo and visited the Snow Festival.

Summary:

The fruit is ripe

These photos were taken recently in Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) . It is the first time to see It. I do not know the fruit's name. I am glad you tell me its Chinese and English name. Let us see who can find it out first.

Summary of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG):

It is situated on the northern side of Tai Mo Shan in New Territories, Hong Kong.

It was formed on 28th September 1951.

Total farm area is equivalent to 148 numbers of standard soccer fields (148 hectares).

Its mission is as follows:

KFBG's long-term vision is to help create a world without environmental crisis,in which conservation of the natural heritage and sustainable living enable people to live contentment, with respect for each other and nature.(extracted from KFBG's printed matter)

Transportation:

Take the KCR-East train to Tai Po market train station, change number 64K bus (destination is Yuen Long West).
The bus terminal is by the side of the Tai Po Market train station.
There is a digital display, inside the bus, to show us the next bus stop name.
You can get off the bus at Kadoorie farm bus stop which is in the front KFBG main entrance.

Onsen - Turunoyu (鶴の湯温泉) (2/2/2006)

鶴の湯温泉

Turunoyu Onsen (鶴の湯温泉) is 30-40 minutes away from Tazawako train station (田沢湖駅) by a vehicle.

When you arrive the Tazawako train station, please contact the Onsen you want to stay. They may tell you to take which no. of bus and wait for their shuttle bus at a said bus stop, as the onsen is not by the side of the bus route.

The bus terminal is in front of the Tazawako train station(田沢湖駅).

On 2/2/2006, we had a free shuttle bus pick-up at " Tazawako Kogan Onsen " bus stop ( " nipple " line ) as there was a big snow on that day. I have not asked whether they do it when the weather is fine. We met two Japanese girls came from Kyushu at this station. both of us chose Turunoyu.

We enjoyed the onsen in the morning and tasted a special lunch. Two girls told us to try the meal with a fish. It is very famous. many people like to order it.

The snow scenery is very beautiful. We will go there and stay one night to take some photos. The night scenery is beautiful too, I think.
I tell you why I choose Turunoyu as I have seen the photo of it at night in advertisment.
It is one of my favourite onsens. Would it become one of your favourite onsens after viewing my photos?
Tazawako JR train station is on the Akita shinkansen line.

750 Yen New Zealand Steak in Tokyo Japan

On 6th Feb. 2006, we went to Kyo-on department store to purchase a souvenir for my wife's friend. it's location is by the side of the Seiseki Sakura Kaoka train station on Kyo-on line. the restaurant is quite near the train station. it is a 2 or 3 minutes walk from it.

There is a supermarket next to the Department store main entrance on the ground floor, for instance, you walk out the supermarket and turn right, walk straight forward, and turn left at the first street corner,then you can see the restaurant. I hope my memory still working correctly.

It is a year ago, could we find it there?

There is no sauce with the steak, only a little bit butter and salt on top. it is 750 Yen for each, with rice too. The taste and texture are ok . I think it is a best buy grade at this price level. It is worth to try once.

He states that it is from New Zealand. I am not sure whether it is true or not. Please tell me later.

I am not sure the restaurant name, please find it out from the poster.

Recently, I found out same texture and taste of steak in Bristo Deli France restaurant in Hong Kong but they did not state which country it came from. It cost HK$89 + 10% service charge.

If no " Bristo " in the shop's name, no service charge and no steak supplied.
